Just for a moment it felt like the old late 50's early 60's Sci-Fi anthologies read by a teenager in the 70's, then it wasn't. I get it, some people like watching clouds drift by, I do sometimes, but not all the time. There's slow then there's ponderous and repetitive.

The whole show was inspired by an artist's retro futuristic imagery, which sounds great in a pitch meeting I guess, but when put to moving pictures it falls short and always will.

The characters are an imitation of real people, that could have worked, but they just seem dull, immature, detached or inexplicably irrational. The "Sci-Fi" ideas aren't new, that's why I can't understand how they managed to balls it up, they have so much material to borrow from.

The show wants to be a slow meal thoroughly enjoyed, but the chefs weren't up to the task. Some will enjoy this, but it left me hungry for something with more flavour.

Either this is an "Emperor's New Clothes" thing or I'm devoid of the ability to internalize true art. To say it moved slowly would insinuate that it progressed with any forward movement. Visually, I'll admit it was one of the most beautifully shot films I've viewed in some time. I made it through with the hope of a payoff. Think Twilight Zone sans the "Aha" moment or Back to the Future without the shiny new Toyota "4x4" ready and waiting in the garage. A quote taken from episode one describes it well. We know how they made it, but we don't know why.

I like the scifi aspect of it. BUT its SO SLOW in each episode my 'patience' was tortured like insane, it makes you want to physically move hoping to induce some sort of movement in the story. And the messages are not really that deep. Each episode could have been wrapped in 20 minutes. AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE MUSIC. just two types of music melancholy and dull celebration type of same music episode after episode. There is only so much SLOWNESS one can take. Every scene, every episode. There has to be some balance. Which it lacks.

It pains me to write this about a Stalenhag-inspired series, and to do that after watching just one episode, but it's hopeless. A potentially interesting story is told with zero passion and no skill. The way the episode developes is just *wrong*. It's not gripping, not thrilling, not interesting. The twist is trite. The storytelling is trite. They tried to offset that with a slow, poetic tone, with scarce dialogues and (yet again) a trite score, but it's just makeup. It comes out as a millennial-style, audience-milking pulp that mixes some darkness, some mystery, some "Stranger Things", some sci-fi and some children adventure. The outcome, you guess it, is truly awful.

From reading the reviews it is apparent that there are two types of viewers, those that want to watch "Art" and those that want to be entertained. For the Arties "fresh and exciting" means good and for the others it means slow, dull boring and nothing happens or is explained. The promos presented this with the loop guy saying something like, when you say something is impossible I show you it's not. It's comes off as a warehouse 13 or Eureka kind of feel. It is not that. It is a slow dull not burn but more of a torture. If you want to watch "Art" and prove how much smarter and cultured you are than those that didn't "get it" then knock yourself out but if you want entertainment, this isn't it. I don't see any writers credited (probably because not much was written) just a creator named Halpern, so I checked out what else he's done and the reviews are the same almost. Same basic descriptions from the fans, beautiful, dark, A masterpiece they say and from the ones who weren't fans, dull, depressing , no story and "nothing happens". So I guess this is just what this guy does. I hate it but that's just my opinion. I think the real telling thing here is that whoever green-lighted this either knew or the higher ups that finally got a look at it knew that there was no way they could represent this truthfully in promos and get anyone interested, so they misrepresented it as a scifi warehouse 13, Eureka kind of show but it isn't in anyway that. The guy on the promo is only barely seen and so far (I'm not sure I can make it thru the whole series) hasn't shown me anything except that a show I thought would be impossible to get aired in fact did. So here's what I suggest, if you read the reviews and you like all the stuff about art, new and refreshing, deep, beautiful blah blah blah then you'll probably like tho being from the want to be entertained for my money crowd, I don't see how, and if the slow, dull , boring, depressing reviews give you pause then do your self a favor and skip it. For me not even the fast forward button helped.

Sounds like a nice premise, but I watched the first episode and was quite disappointed.

1. Too dark. Not in mood, but every scene has so little light that it seems like it's night or twilight all the time. 2. Most importantly, the story was very poorly written. There were so many holes left when it was finished. It was very confusing and many things not explained.

Kinda feels like science stories trying to be written by people who don't know much science.

This show had so much potential but too depressing. I'm all for the cerebral sci-fi stories but not so dark that I wanted to risk going out for a box of Oreos to feel better after sitting thru an episode. The slowness didn't bother me as I used fast on the drawn out scenes but some characters behave in ways no one would. It's based off paintings so I have to give credit to the creative but they could have had at least ONE episode end on a positive note. If you watch before bed do some jumping jacks or watch cartoons first.

So far I felt like I have been wasting my time though the young girl plays nicely and the filming is good. But this is not enough. This first episode has been a true waste of time so I must force myself to watch episode 2 in order to hope to have a better appreciation ...

I barely got through the first episode and I fought falling asleep. It is possible to be an intelligent show and be interesting. This has the first covered, but for the love of god is it boring. I'm not asking for laser battles or psychic powers. This show has nothing going on. I cannot describe how boring it is. The whole show felt like two hours.

I really hoped that would be a good Series. Unfortunately, very disappointing. Don't believe the hype.

Do not watch this series if you are used to shows that introduce elements and then tie them up for you. You have to watch this and be prepared for no answers in the end. If you enjoy exploring character development for and by itself, then this is for you. Each episode delves deeply into each character's world, mind and emotions with no effort to explain their predicament. Their situation is secondary to exploring them. While that is interesting I did, in the end, say out loud "that was 8 hours of my life that I will never get back".

This series is also presents Hollywood's typical agenda that most of middle America rejects.

The 1s episode wasn't that bad. But the show is unbearably oversentimental, and I'm not buying it. it's just the same sad piano tune over and over again along with characters you don't really care about. The sci-fi concept sounds awesome but where is it?

I like the linked anthology idea presented here, but holy cow - could it move at a *more* glacial pace? I watched 3 and 1/2 episodes and gave up. Also - couldn't begin to care about any of the characters I'd encountered at that point: they're so unformed it's like watching shadow puppets. I felt like I was viewing a project that died in development, and - oops - got made anyway. Meh - I'll pass on the rest of the episodes. Unless I really need to get some sleep.

I wasn't expecting action packed sci-fi when I sat down to watch this series but I was expecting original stories with depth. Sadly, this show failed on that front.

Each episode (I've watched 7 of the 8) is a story about new characters, with love, both romantic and in a family unit, being the over-arching theme. The sci-fi element is actually fairly irrelevant. I am someone who usually cries when I see love and pain portrayed on screen. Often in shows and film where they are not really trying to bring a flood of tears, so how strange it is that a show that is trying really hard to pull at my heart strings failed to move me at all.

After watching an episode for 5 minutes, you will likely be able to predict the ending. There is a distinct lack of original storytelling here. Some reviewers have compared it to the golden age of sci-fi. That's fair enough but there are better stories to be told back in the golden age of sci-fi. Many Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episodes easily eclipse what's on offer here. Not to mention books from classic authors, such as Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke.

I've given this show 3 stars, mainly because the actors were decent. Jonathan Pryce, in particular, is always watchable. The episode with him as the main actor is probably the best (but still predictable) episode.

Absolutely no science to the fiction in this work. I would say it isn't even social science fiction, because all actions and reactions have a wet depressing blanket over them. Nothing holds...like a progressive utopia with starvation arround the corner because of lost opportunity. However it is very beautifully filmed.

Such soothing music and at such a slow pace you'll be hard pressed to find a better show to nap to.

Thank you so much for this series!! I haven't been able to sleep and this series is so boring and drab that it put me out like a light! I woke up in the middle of the night and watched 3 more minutes of it and with that deadbeat depressing ass way of acting and that horrible music, I was back to sleep in no time. I do like the premise of the show but the producers need to be fired......

Boring and slow. He opens a thousand questions without closing one. It looks like the bad copy of Lost

If you need a nap, turn on Tales from the Loop. Fall asleep at the beginning and wake up at the end and you haven't missed a thing. This IS NOT anything like Night Gallery, Twilight Zone, Tales from the Darkside or any of the other great scifi series that have graced our televisions. The concept was good, the execution is a long slow burn to nothing. Was this supposed to be on the Hallmark channel or maybe Lifetime?

Was episode 1 supposed to rope me into watching the rest of the series? It failed. No excitement. No action. Convoluted plot.
