Murphy
- [first lines]
- Murphy: Hey, hey, I know that kid.
- Johnson: Yeah, well, so do I. I went to school with his brother.
- Murphy: Did you know he was busted for pushing angel dust?
- Johnson: What are we following him for?
- Murphy: Just keep your eyes on him and don't lose him.
- [they follow a skateboard kid down the street]
- Murphy: If our man rolls into Melrose's Sporting Goods, with that envelope in his back pocket, and then rolls out with a package of Christmas goodies, then you're on to your first major bust, rookie.
- Johnson: Why don't we just pick him up and take him to juvenile?
- Murphy: Because we got bigger fish to fry right under our own noses.
- [they continue to follow the kid who whizzes past a shopping crowd and a Salvation Army music band]
- Murphy: Don't lose him!
- Johnson: Hey, just watch the road, Murph! He's not gonna disappear.
- Murphy: Yeah?
- [the kid rolls into the sporting goods store]
- Murphy: I knew it, I knew it! They ARE using that joint as a depot and that little punk is a moon rock. I can smell it. I can always smell it.
- Johnson: You really got something, Murph. Let's get a warrant.
- Murphy: [sarcastically] Oh, that's very good. Very good. Three weeks out of the academy and you know all about warrants. Look, I don't want to give any advanced notice.
- Johnson: It's all right with me, Murph, but, you know, the lieutenant's gonna have your ass, if we go in there without backup.
- Murphy: Well, then my ass is all his, Mr. Johnson, because when we find what I know we'll find, he'll have to kiss it first.
